Glass was discovered in an organic bread made by Schnitzer. The authorities therefore warn against consuming the product. Schnitzer himself regrets the incident and points out that his organic bread has been recalled "as a precaution for the greatest possible consumer safety".
Glass in organic bread can cause injuries As the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety announced on Wednesday, the product "Schnitzer gluten-free sliced bread, variety organic buckwheat cuts, 250 grams" was recalled. Glass fragments were discovered in one of the organic breads. This could cause injuries.
Customers who bought bread can return it to the store and get a replacement free of charge. The recall only applies to organic bread of the type mentioned with a best before date of September 7, 2014.
The manufacturer, a baking company from Offenburg in the Ortenau district of Baden, "attaches great importance to optimal product quality and food safety", writes the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety on its internet portal "www.lebensmittelwarnung.de". Schnitzer very much regrets the incident and apologizes to his customers, it goes on to say
As part of the food production process, products may be contaminated despite compliance with all legal requirements and the greatest care. However, it is not known how the glass fragments got into the organic bread in this case. (ag)
