Recall: Milupa infant milk contaminated with bacteria

As it became known on Friday, the food manufacturer Milupa has recalled the baby milk "Aptamil pre" as a precaution. "During routine examinations, traces of an unwanted germ (Cronobacter sakazakii) were found in samples of the" Aptamil pre starter food "with the best-before date" 11/01/2014 "and the production time between 2:14 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.," says the group's press release.

If "Aptamil pre" is correctly prepared, there is no health risk. Two packs of the batch contaminated with germs were sold on July 18 or 19 in the Marktkauf branch in Heide in the district of Dithmarschen. According to the current state of knowledge, the remaining products of the affected batch have not been put on the market, the group said.

The bacterial load in the baby milk "does not pose a health risk if the product is prepared correctly", the company said. According to Milupa, improper preparation could lead to infections and inflammation "in the first four to eight weeks of infants' life". As a precaution, the food manufacturer has recalled its product "Aptamil pre" in consultation with the authorities. Parents who bought the baby milk with a sell-by date of January 11, 2014 at the Marktkauf branch in Heide can return it for a refund of the purchase price and presentation of the receipt.

So far, no further supermarkets and sales outlets have been affected by the recall. Milupa has set up a parenting service on 0800-27 82 645 and 0800-5 888 729. (ag)
