Pain therapy: "Homeopathy is often the last ace up your sleeve"

Homeopathy is often the "last ace up your sleeve" in pain therapy. Have you had severe physical pain in the past four weeks? Around 60 percent of those surveyed in a recent Infratest survey answered yes to this question. According to this, around 2.4 million people in Germany "always" suffer from severe pain, and a further 9.6 million people "often" experience severe pain. Where this pain comes from is often unclear, stressed patients meet helpless doctors who prescribe pain medication. The analgesics, as they are called in technical jargon, dampen the pain via the central nervous system. However, the success of treatment with long-term pain medication is poor and involves considerable risks for the patient.

In the summer edition of the homeopathic public magazine of the German Central Association of Homeopathic Doctors (DZVhÄ) Dr. Klaus Zak, he is a specialist in orthopedics, trauma surgery and a homeopathic doctor, from homeopathy as a sensible option in pain therapy. Dr. Zak has many years of experience in the homeopathic treatment of pain patients and is chairman of the German Society for Osteopathy and Pain Therapy (DGOS). "For me as a pain therapist, there is almost always a chance to successfully use homeopathy," says the Berlin specialist, listing frequent indications: "From postoperative or accident injuries, to bite wounds, stab wounds, fractures, subacute situations after tooth extraction, headache after old bruises, consequences of sore throat after tonsillitis, chronic scar pain in the spine or pain after gynecological endoscopic interventions up to fistula pain after old leg breaks. "His conclusion:" Homeopathy is often the last ace up the sleeve. "

Pain is uncomfortable and painkillers provide initial relief. Careless and improper use is associated with considerable risks according to the latest study results. Apart from that, taking painkillers is a pure symptom treatment that does not cure the patient and encourages the chronification of pain. In their current analysis, researchers from the most important Swiss institution for scientific research, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), put it in a nutshell: "Those who take painkillers regularly often face the increased risk of suffering a heart or brain infarction." Many of the over-the-counter pain relievers increase the risk of heart attack four-fold. The results of the SNSF are based on the world's most extensive meta-analysis of clinical studies on this topic and are considered scientifically incontestable. A whole range of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, i.e. painkillers with antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects, pose deadly risks, according to the SNSF. These drugs include, for example, ibuprofen or naproxen. According to the SNSF, all drugs examined are "associated with an increased risk of heart attack or brain attack".

Klaus Zak carried out a study of the effects of the homeopathic medicine Arnica after surgery, in which over 800 patients took part. The surgical interventions covered the entire spectrum of orthopedic surgery up to major interventions in endoprosthetics. Zak summarizes some key results: “No patient bleeded, and no patient developed an infection requiring further surgery or medication. Every second patient could completely do without pain medication. We could not determine any side effects of the homeopathic administration of medication. The administration of Arnica or other suitable homeopathic remedies has been part of our standard postoperative procedure ever since. ”(Pm)
