The emergency lines in Schleswig-Holstein were down for a few hours.
In Schleswig-Holstein, radio connections in the rescue control centers went down for hours on Friday nights. Between 2.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m., very important and sensitive data connections, via which the control centers are connected to various radio transmission stations throughout the state, were inoperative. The radio connection to the emergency services was no longer possible for a few hours. As a result, the emergency services had to use telephones. There were no serious incidents.
Software bug was responsible
According to Telekom, an error in the software was responsible for this. The network then failed, as a spokesman for the communications company said. The health of the patients was not at risk during the entire period of the failure. The control centers would not have been prepared for the outage, but no people were “critically endangered”, as Sascha Münster from the control center north from the district of Schleswig-Flensburg said. "The professional handling of the situation by the employees of the control centers was able to prevent this." (Sb, 26.11.2010)
