Allergy for autumn babies: Children who are in the womb during allergy weddings have an increased risk of allergies.

A study was able to demonstrate for the first time that children who were born in the autumn months are at an increased risk of allergy than children born in other months. It has been demonstrated that the allergy risk apparently depends on the time of pregnancy and conception.

If babies in the womb are exposed to increased allergy stimuli in the first three months of pregnancy, there is apparently a higher susceptibility to a later allergy. The researchers suspect that the increased pollen count in the autumn months is responsible, as the researchers at the Finnish University of Oulu report in the science journal "Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health".

During the course of the study, the researchers examined a total of 5,920 children who were born in Finland between 2001 and 2006. A skin allergy test was done in 961 children at the age of 4. Ten percent of children born in the fall months responded positively to the test. What was striking here was that twice as many children responded positively to the test than those who were born in other months such as July or August. The autumn children reacted particularly to milk and eggs.

High allergy stimuli during the eleventh week of pregnancy
But what could be the cause of the increased allergy? The scientists suspect that the affected babies were exposed to a very high concentration of allergy stimuli in the eleventh week of pregnancy in April and May. In the 11th week of pregnancy, unborn babies are particularly susceptible to external influences. In addition, all essential body structures are formed in the first few weeks. However, children who were in the eleventh week of pregnancy in December or January have very low values. In these winter months, the allergy stimuli from pollen, for example, are the least.
