Beware of children's clothing that does not contain a TÜV seal. Naturopathy experts, however, rely on organic clothing without chemical pollutants.

(June 29, 2010) Children's clothing often contains chemical substances that can trigger allergies and nasty skin irritations. Parents prefer to pay attention to the price, so they put the children's health at risk. But how can you check whether the children's clothing contains substances that could harm children's health. The TÜV Rheinland provides a simple and sensible note for this. Parents should pay attention to the TÜV seal "Toxproof" - this seal guarantees that the pollution level is in the lower range of the legal requirements. There is also a TÜV mark for leather clothing called "SG mark" (SG = tested for harmful substances). As the TÜV announced, the tested goods do not contain any carcinogenic substances, for example. After purchasing, the experts recommend washing the clothes hot before wearing them for the first time.

Parents should prefer organic clothing.
Heilpraxisnet.de recommends to use clothing that does not contain any harmful substances. Environmentalists, scientists and naturopathic experts have long warned that the pollutant guidelines for clothing, food and other products are often not complied with or that the maximum values are far too low. The advantage of organic clothing: organic-tested clothing does not contain any artificial fibers, but 100 percent natural substances.

But can you find such pollution-free clothing? You can find organic clothes in numerous organic shops. There are now well over a hundred specialized organic clothing stores for children's clothing in Germany. The raw materials must be grown without pesticide treatment. The most commonly used fabrics for "organic clothing" are cotton, hemp, jute, bamboo fibers and cork. Organic clothing is from biologically compatible cultivation, free from toxins and chemical coloring agents. In addition, when manufacturing the clothing, care is taken to ensure that workers receive a fair wage and live in environmentally friendly working conditions. This not only protects the health of children, but also the health of workers in the fields and their families. (sb)
