According to surveys by the Techniker Krankenkasse, the number of psychological sick leave has increased by 40 percent.

(28.05.2010) According to the results of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), excessive demands and stress in the workplace lead to more and more sick leave in the area of mental illnesses. According to the TK Health Report 2010, the number of disability certificates due to mental illness (depression or anxiety disorders) rose by almost 40 percent. The background for this rapid increase is likely to be increasing competition on the job market and pressure to perform at the workplace. TK CEO Norbert Klusen said: "The world of work has changed significantly over the past ten years. More and more employment relationships are limited, thanks to modern means of communication we can now be reached around the clock and almost anywhere. This does not leave people indifferent ".

More and more people are getting medications like antidepressants from doctors. According to the health report, around twice as many women take antidepressants today than they did ten years ago. For men, the income rate has more than doubled since 2000. The unemployed are particularly affected. The fear of the descent into the Hartz IV relationship puts such a strain on people that a significant increase in mental illnesses can also be observed here. (sb)
